BIOGRAPHY
Edgar Insuasty was born in San Juan de Pasto, Colombia, in 1972. A plastic and visual artist, he has always maintained painting as a plastic base for reflection and a point of departure or arrival. The canvas or paper can form part of other larger structures and is generally the result of specific actions methodically developed. Therefore, the value placed on the processes is enormous, and the details of its completion are equally central to the work.
His work speaks of the problems of isolation and displacement, those metaphorical distances that migrations generate, and the circumstances resulting from the sensitive distancing and separation from the place of origin. As a constituent part of that need for movement, the journey, for Edgar, is a learning strategy and a creative tool.
Since 2007 he has been working in prisons through the artistic-pedagogical uses of art. Because of his interest in the social function of art, he started the Audiovisual Creation Laboratory of the Barcelona Youth Penitentiary Centre in 2012.
He has been living and working in Spain since 1997.

LaCA
Audiovisual Creation Laboratory of the Youth Penitentiary Center of Barcelona
Created in 2012, it is a space for experimentation, reflection, and collective work inside a prison.
The project works as a device of artistic and pedagogical intervention that seeks to reduce the negative consequences of deprivation of liberty through educational and transformative stimulation. In our case, through the use of art as a powerful tool of influence and reaffirmation of the individual.
